Brandon Velasquez was born in New Orleans, and now lives in Guatemala with his wife Wendy and son Eduardo. He began to tell stories and draw pictures since childhood. It has been his greatest joy.
He served in Aurora International Airport as an Air Traffic Controller for 12 years, and now co-owns a small enterprise. He is an english teacher by profession, serving as a teacher for many years. He enjoys reading and writing.
Brandon Velásquez nació en Nuevo Orleans, y ahora vive en Guatemala con su esposa Wendy e hijo Eduardo. Comenzó a contar historias y hacer dibujos desde su niñez. Ha su sido su mayor gozo.
Trabajó en el Aeropuerto Internacional La Aurora como Controlador de Tránsito Aéreo por 12 años, y ahora tiene compartido una empresa pequeña. Es un maestro de Inglés de profesión, sirviendo como maestro por muchos años. Le encanta leer y escribir.
Inspiration
Since reading the Chronicles of Narnia as a little boy, and a sci-fi trilogy (Out of the silent planet, Perelandra, That Hideous Strength), from C.S.Lewis, I have enjoyed reading and exploring new worlds to imagine. As a child, I would draw picture stories for friends and family to read. I had my own police series for a while (It never took off).
I did this in school as well, and eventually started more writing and less pictures (some friends prefered the comic book idea, oh well).
I had read most of the Shannara Series of Terry Brooks in the fantasy genre. I didn't follow other authors until recently. Since i was focused on work, church and family, I had not considered making "first contact" with other speculative fiction writers, until 2019 after changing careers to have more time to focus on family. I am pleasantly surprised to find a place for speculative fiction writers (published or not) with moral values (religous or not), and realize that i should reach out and have a place to share that unusual way of expressing my beliefs thru other worlds. Would be interested in seeing a couple of books of mine for mass marketing, but realize that i have to step out and "share" what i have written, so i began to self-publish on Amazon Kindle, and now on other ebook sites as well. I will enjoy reading other books from writers of this awesome genre. Other authors i have read include: Frank E. Peretti, as well as positive and motivational books written by John C. Maxwell, Carlos Cuauhtemoc Sánchez, Og Mandino (yes, older material), and a few others of the same category.
A practical Vision
In this day and age where children spend more time using social media (for better or for worse) i knew that it was time to come back to telling interesting stories with moral beliefs and positive ideas to focus on the things that are important to everyday living and spark an interest back to simple reading. I hope that my readers will learn these things and use them in modern day life, as well as get entertained with great stories.
To be fair, my books are not groundbreaking masterpieces. I am glad to see that there is more interest in sci-fi and fantasy with a positive message than I believed, and very well-made content with outrageous creativity. In recent days I would not compare my quality of work with most new authors, and accept advice to improve my recent projects in the Sci-fi genre. That said, I am glad to join in with many others that are making a difference, and aspire to reach a professional level to reach many people who enjoy reading.
